August 7 - Bye Bye Barcelona

Well, today was officially the last day of the program. I sleepily got out of bed for one last free breakfast with my classmates. We ate and talked about how bittersweet the day would be. Once we finished up breakfast, we met down in the lobby to head out for our last day of adventuring. We climbed up the hill behind our hotel to go to the Montjuic Castle. There, we took the a cable car up to the top. The view of the city was breathtaking and something that I loved getting to experience with my friends. The castle itself was lovely and so incredible to see. There was however not much to do inside the castle so we explored for a little while, said our bittersweet goodbyes to our professor, and made our way back to the base of the hill.

Some friends and I decided to make the most of our day and do all the last minute things that we had been wanting to do. We went back to La Boqueria for some final snacks and juices as a treat before shopping. We went to La Rambla and stopped at so many little boutiques to grab our fun gifts for our friends and family. We shopped around and picked out tacky things and then went to some clothing stores for some little things we’ve been eying. We were out for a while before deciding to head back to start packing and napping.

I napped for an hour before getting up to grab one last dinner with my classmates. I was expecting two or three people to join me but FOURTEEN of us went out for a final round of tapas. We found a nice place near the hotel that was able to accommodate all of us. It was truly a bittersweet experience but we recapped the entire trip and made plans for a future reunion with one another. We ended the dinner on a sweet note with some final gelato before going back to the hotel to start packing.

I packed like crazy and as I am writing this I am still not entirely packed. I packed for a while before our room once again became the website grind night room. At one point, there were ten of us dispersed around the cramped hotel room working on our websites and talking about everything. This trip has been incredible and today was the best way to end off my time in Barcelona. I am going to miss it so much but I cannot wait to get home and see the people I love.

"Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful."
