Getting Lost in the Louvre is Always a Good Idea - July 17

I apologize for the delay in my posts. Paris truly never sleeps so there are constantly fun things to do.

Today, we went to the Louvre! Although I was fortunate enough to spend a few hours there the other day, the whole museum is massive and one can easily spend days and days there and not see everything. My classmates and I all walked from our hotel to the museum and got in line. On the lowest floor of the museum, they have stores and restaurants and things to do before you even see your first piece of art. We all browsed the stores as we waited to enter.

Once we made our way into the museum, we dispersed and all took our time to look around. The museum is MASSIVE. I went off on my own and just immersed myself in all the art. It was overwhelming to say the least. In some rooms, there will be so many people that it’s hard to get around. In others, you can walk for a few minutes and not even see another person. I was there for 5 hours and most definitely did not even get close to seeing everything there. It was amazing.

I truly don’t remember everything I saw, simply since I saw so many things. I saw gorgeous sculptures from all around the world. I saw paintings dating back hundreds of years. I saw artifacts that have been around longer than the United States has been a country. Of course, I saw the essential pieces such as the Venus de Milo and the Mona Lisa (or La Joconde in French). The Louvre is an absolute must-do for anyone visiting Paris. Just keep in mind that you cannot even comprehend the sheer vastness of it all.

I planned to stay as long as I could but I was starting to feel Louvred out after a while. I decided to grab a snack and take a walk. I walked around near the Opera Garnier (the famous Opera from the Phantom of the Opera!) and decided to go out with some classmates. Some classmates and I went back to Angelina for hot chocolate and pastries. We savored our treats and then went on the ferris wheel outside of the Louvre. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the city and took it all in. It was such a wonderful sight.

The night was still young and so more classmates met up for dinner by the Seine. We grabbed drinks and street food and sat by the river for hours. We shared drinks, snacked on local delicacies, watched the boats pass, and talked about everything. I truly feel closer to my new found friends and I know these are relationships that I will cherish. I feel like I am in the prime of my life and I know that one day I will look back on this trip and think about all of these special moments of my life.

"Travel changes you. As you move through this life and this world you change things slightly, you leave marks behind, however small. And in return, life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time, those marks - on your body or on your heart - are beautiful."
